Who are our customers and competition?
- Customers are members and prospects from within the biosciences
community.
- While competition runs counter to the collaborative concept of a
clus-ter, those entities that purposely draw business, jobs, and
investment opportunity out of the bioscience community of the
Greater Rochester Area compete against the better interests of this
cluster.
From what geography do we draw?
- Our recruiting area is the 9-county area served by the Greater
Roches-ter Metro Chamber of Commerce: Monroe, Orleans, Wyoming,
Livingston, Ontario, Wayne, Genesee, Steuben, and Yates.
- We will naturally draw from outside of this 9-county area and may,
from time to time, solicit business development opportunity
elsewhere.
What is our unique competitive advantage?
Our ability to provide a “safe harbor”—a trust of protection of
intellectual prop-erty and anyll and a other shared or individual
values and resources in a col-laborative venture—for member
organizations for cooperative work.
What are our values?
Our values as an organization are expressed by our Code of
Responsibility:
The BioCluster, for the benefit of its members, shall –
- Lead and partner in the growth, continual improvement, and
recognition of BioCluster and the Greater Rochester Area as a center
of excellence in the biosciences.
- Lead with responsibility, impeccable ethics, and excellence in
process and practice. Identify conflicts of interest, whether real
or perceived, and eliminate or manage them openly.
- Follow a Vision and Mission that are sensitive to those of our
partner organizations. Set aggressive-yet-reachable goals and
objectives, and review them periodically for timeliness and
relevance, and update as needed.
- Protect the “safe harbor” of the BioCluster with respect to the
intellec-tual property, business information, and staff of Member
companies.
- Maintain a healthy balance of participation by Principals,
Suppliers, and Academic Institutions at the working level, and in
BioCluster leadership.
- Meet or exceed customer requirements and make those requirements
known to the membership.
- Plan strategically and tactically, and share the results across
the Clus-ter.
- Assign authority and responsibility clearly and unambiguously.
- Meet regularly to share information, network, consider new needs,
and resolve issues of the BioCluster and its Members.
- Maintain active communication across the membership relating to
all Cluster projects, products, actions, and corrective measures in
process.
- Share the successes of the BioCluster with Members and with our
busi-ness partners, the Greater Rochester Area, and the biosciences
community as a whole.
